Cottage Farmhouse Style
Ever since I was a little girl I had a passion for creating. I remember organizing and decorating my room, or drawing sketches of my dream home, where I would spend time with the family hanging out, playing games, cooking, cleaning and organizing. This simple life is the life I have always dreamed of. Being a wife and a mother is the biggest honor of my life, and the opportunity to create a home that reflects us is important to me. When I think home, I think safe-haven from the outside world, a place of refuge, a place you are so excited to come back to.
My passion for older things comes from my dad. We used to go to Flea Markets in Montevideo, Uruguay (where I was born) weekly. He collected antiques as a hobby and our home was decorated with a rustic feel. I adored the combination of old and new and give new life to an otherwise non-practical item. My mom has the same love for creating, restoring things and sewing beautiful curtains for our home. And that instilled a spark in my soul for creativity that turned into a burning flame.
Cottage farmhouse is definitely my style for decorating. I think because it is deeply rooted in my and is a reminder of what home was for me when I was little and what it still represents as an adult. Rustic woods, comfortable furnishes, a neutral palette, beadboard paneling or ceilings and an airy, relaxed feel speak volumes to my heart and make me feel all warm and cozy inside. It took me years to really define my style (I think we all go through this) going through several changes but something that never was my style is anything that is modern. However, I do the cottage farmhouse style “Vivian’s way” and maybe not the traditional way. Too many bold colors, coastal and florals are not my thing.
When I need inspiration for a makeover, I am usually drawn to: a simple color palette, rustic woods, mixed patterns and soft florals, open shelving, architectural interest such as shiplap, beadboard or board and batten, shutters and woven blinds, vintage treasures and decor and re-purposed furniture to create an easy, minimalist living.
All these pictures speak volumes to my heart:
We are renovating our 1990 cottage in the south that we purchased in 2019 and we have gotten started. It definitely needs a lot of love and character. Everything is dated in the good ole 90’s style. We have been working hard in making updates and working on budget. Please follow along as we document our journey!
