Cottage Farmhouse Bathroom

One of the first BIG projects we are going to tackle is the kid’s bathroom. Nothing has ever been updates and it is plain gross. We are not thinking about replumbing or moving things around since it is very small. I still want it to get that airy cottage-y feel without being all white.

I chose the paint color Alabaster, by Sherwin Williams for the walls. To add architectural interest in such a tiny room, I decided to add vertical shiplap to half of the walls. One one side, is there will be the  mirror and vanity, and the other side I wanted to add hooks to hang towels.

We will have to replace the tub. It is very tiny and it is stained. I thought about painting it with epoxy, but since the previous owners used to have a glass door and then removed it, it is dented and has holes where the screws used to be. It also has a tub surround that we will be replacing with subway tile and gray grout to accentuate the pattern. For the curtain, I chose this one from the Hearth and Hand collection.

For the flooring I went with the classical hexagon tile. I’m still undecided if I want the white or gray marbled version. For now, I’m going with the white.

The vanity was a tough choice. To keep it on a low budget, I will be keeping the old vanity and update it with paint. I kept going back and forth, and to be honest, my choice surprised me. I almost always go with a white vanity because I think is timeless and I can change the décor around if I ever want a makeover I know it will go with almost everything. Since the walls are a soft, off white colo,r I wanted to do something more fun without being too bold. I went with a sage green vanity and antique bronze fixtures. I think they look really pretty together and give it a little more of that old feel. This color goes really well with rustic wood accents, so I think it will pair really nicely with a wooded mirror. To match that, I will add a shelf over the toilet and add some decorative items such as linen striped towels and wicker storage containers.

I am still in the hunt for a little rug. I want a plaid rug with neutral tones that wraps up all the colors in the bathroom. I still have not found the one I want, but for now I chose a beige plaid rug from Threshold at Target.

The light I chose is very simple. I wanted it to have a little black to break all the gold. I found this one at Home Depot:

For art, I will include an inspirational, framed quote and a bathroom sign that I found on Etsy.

I can’t wait to get started. We’re finishing some big cleaning up projects (storage room and garage) to prepare for the bigger renos like the bathrooms and kitchen. Stay tuned for updates!
